Edinburgh, Portobello beach

Swim Safe is being delivered by RNLI Lifeguards Scotland. There are school sessions on offer at this site.

On arrival to your session please report to the Swim Safe gazebo nearby Portobello Swimming Centre, look out for the big smiley Swim Safe staff and Swim Safe flags on the beach. Please arrive to your session wearing your swimming costume underneath your clothes, don’t forget a towel to dry off afterwards!

The nearest parking is available on Pittville street and Bellfield street. Parking is free.

Portobello Swimming Centre have kindly allowed Swim Safe participants to use their facilities, on condition we wear shoes inside the premises.

Male, female and disabled toilets are available in the upstairs of the building. There is a lift which is available on request. There is a Refresh café in the upstairs of the Swim Centre.

Portobello Beach offers the freshness of the seaside, whilst being very close to Edinburgh’s city centre. There are views from the shoreline across the Forth to Fife’s coast. The beach is mechanically cleaned weekly, with litter picking equipment available for public use to help keep this beautiful beach clean.

The beach is used for swimming, sailing, rowing, stand up paddle boarding, wind surfing, canoeing and kayaking.
